There are countless misconceptions about what it means to be a legal courtesan.
Most people assume that anyone who enters sex work does so out of desperation—or, at the very least, because they desperately need money. While survival sex work is absolutely real and a completely valid reason to become a legal courtesan, that simply isn’t my story.
I hold multiple college degrees, spent years working in high-level sales for Fortune 100 companies, and own a successful small business. Has being a legal courtesan at Sheri’s Ranch, one of Nevada’s premier legal brothels, created financial opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise? Absolutely. But money wasn’t what brought me into this industry.
My journey began with something much more personal.
I Was Terrified of My Own Sexuality
For the first 25 years of my life, I was afraid of my own desires.
I married young and found myself in a mostly sexless marriage, largely because I had fantasies I was too ashamed to share with my husband. I vividly remember driving to the only adult store within hundreds of miles of my small hometown and nervously buying a riding crop and a cheap plastic flogger.
When I got home, I placed them on the kitchen counter where I knew my husband would find them. Then I retreated to the bedroom and waited.
When he walked through the door, he picked them up, carried them into the bedroom, tossed them onto the bed, and said with visible disgust:
“You must be joking. That’s not happening.”
I can still remember the embarrassment washing over me.
He was right… wasn’t he?
I was a married woman from a good family. Why would I want my husband to flog me? What was wrong with me?
So I buried those desires.
For years, I fantasized in private only to be overwhelmed with shame afterward. I knew I wanted more than my incredibly vanilla—almost nonexistent—sex life was giving me, but every desire came attached to guilt.
The Chance Encounter That Changed Everything
Everything changed after my divorce.
I went on two dates with a man I had absolutely zero romantic chemistry with.
But he was kinky.
More importantly, he wasn’t ashamed of it.
During those two dates, he introduced me to FetLife and told me about local BDSM demo parties happening in my small town. That brief encounter completely changed the trajectory of my life because, for the first time, I realized there were people who embraced the very desires I had spent years trying to suppress.
It gave me permission to explore.
Discovering Who I Really Was
Without boring you with every detail, my life transformed remarkably quickly.
The shy, inexperienced woman who carried so much shame evolved into someone adventurous, confident, and sexually empowered.
I attended munches (casual BDSM community meetups), explored the lifestyle as a unicorn with couples, and eventually entered a non-monogamous relationship of my own.
For the first time in my life, sex stopped feeling like something to fear.
Instead, it became something beautiful.
Something empowering.
Something deeply enriching.
Sex Is About More Than Sex
I share all of this because I want you to understand how I view intimacy today.
To me, sex isn’t simply about physical pleasure, although that’s certainly a wonderful bonus.
It’s about self-discovery.
It’s about authenticity.
It’s about feeling safe enough to explore the parts of yourself you’ve been taught to hide.
Sometimes, it can even be therapeutic.
When we allow ourselves to embrace who we truly are, something profound happens. We become more confident, more honest, and more connected. Not only to our partners, but to ourselves.
Why I Chose to Become a Legal Courtesan
That’s why I entered legal sex work.
I saw far too many people carrying the same shame I once carried.
Some were trapped in relationships where they couldn’t safely explore their sexuality. Others had internalized years of guilt and embarrassment over perfectly healthy desires.
I wanted to help.
I wanted to create a space where people could feel accepted, understood, and free to explore who they really are without judgment. A place where it doesn’t matter what turns you on, where you are at in your sexual journey, how long it has been since you last had sex. The only thing that matters is your own safe exploration.
Do I believe I’m curing cancer as a legal courtesan? Of course not.
But I do believe that many people leave their time with me feeling seen, heard, and more confident embracing their authentic selves.
And that’s incredibly rewarding.
What’s Next?
One day, I’ll retire from being a legal courtesan.
In fact, I’m currently earning my certification as a nutritionist and hope to eventually open my own boutique gym.
Helping people has always been the common thread throughout my life. Right now, I have the privilege of helping people through intimacy, connection, education, and acceptance.
Someday, that passion will take a different form.
Until then, I’m grateful for the opportunity to show people that sex can be so much more than most of us were ever taught to believe. And that we should never feel guilty about the things that make us tick as sexual beings.
